All About Us at Arrowrock Lodge
Arrowrock Lodge offers self catering accommodation and is owned and operated by Mary and Craig and our aim is to offer our guests great value accommodation in a cosy and friendly atmosphere.
Arrowrock Lodge, or Rockview Farm as it was then known, has welcomed guests since the 1800’s. Back then most visitors were either anglers fishing on Lough Arrow or hunting parties.
In the 1960’s Rockview Farm was converted into a 10 room hotel and was renamed Rock House Hotel and so it remained until we converted the building in the spring and early summer of 2009 and Arrowrock Lodge came into being.
A Brief History of Arrowrock Lodge
Arrowrock Lodge is in the townland of Ballynary on the shore of Lough Arrow in County Sligo. The exact date it was built is unknown but it was a large working farm in the early 1800’s. According to the previous owners (the property was in their family for well over a 100 years) the oldest part of the building was here from at least the early 1700’s.
Arrowrock Lodge may have been the birth place of Ambrose O’Higgins. He became Viceroy of Chile and Peru and his son, Bernardo O’Higgins, led the revolt against the Spanish and eventually became the First President of Chile.
Arrowrock Lodge is the site of the O’Higgins ancestral family home and site maps dating back to the 1500’s show a large building in exactly the same position as the oldest part of the present building.
The black and white pictures date from the 1920’s.
